our safe haven

a gust of wind filling my lungs with flowers

ipilling over like the sweetness of your caresses

a picture of honey painted on my velvet skin

i sometimes forget you once wanted me

i have to remind myself that i come invited

i’m used to the sound of doors slamming on cold tile floors and day old mascara

so forgive me for not knowing my toothbrush found a new home

encased in your long arms that can stretch around houses big as mountains

that can hold upright seeds of dandelion

wasn’t she a goddess at some point?

weren’t we all supposed to end that way

giving back to what birthed us

knowing we were always safe

and always had a place
